  • 1.1 kilogram Steak (cut)
  • 2 tablespoons Plain flour
  • 3 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 2 Larg onions (skinned & sliced)
  • 225 milliliters Tomato sauce
  • 1 clove garlic (skinned & chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 2 Small green peppers (seeded & chopped)
Instructions
  1. Trim any excess fat from the meat and pound one side well with a meat mallet. Turn the meat over and pound the other side until it is an even thickness. Sprinkle 15 ml (1 level tbsp) flour evenly over each side of the steak.

  2. Heat the oil in a large frying pan, add the meat and cook until well browned on both sides. Remove from the pan.
    Add the tomato sauce, garlic, salt, pepper and bay leaf and return the meat to the pan. Reduce the heat. cover and simmer for about 23/4 hours, turning the meat once.

  3. Ad t onions to the fat remaining in the pan and cook, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes, until the onions are lightly browned.

  4. Add the green peppers and cook for a further 45 minutes untilthe beef is tender. Discard the bay leaf and skim off the fat. Serve the meat with the sauce spooned over.
